Cool Installed my stereo tonight...

Tonight was a learning experience.... I picked up a Kenwood MASK head unit, and a matching set of Infinity speakers from Best Buy tonight... That was the easy part... The difficult part was the install.. LOL... Speakers were fine, but I had never seen anything like the setup for the head unit... Had to break out the circuit tester to find everything... power antenna, dimmer, front speakers, etc... I could only assume the rear speakers ran through those two "interesting" looking cables... Ended up running new speaker wire back to the rear speakers... We installed the head unit first, and listened to the stock speakers... the quality blew us away! (No, really! hehe..).. I was almost tempted to leave them in.. But I'm a squirrel, so we changed them out anyways.. lol.. Already, stereo sounds fantastic... For the mounting of the head unit, we tried something a little different. We removed the old system (factory head unit, with cassette deck), and drilled new holes in the bracket to mount the new stereo deep... We then installed the factory stereo in the top spot, and the new stereo under it, sunken back about half an inch... This way when the face plate is flipped or removed, you are very hard pressed to tell there is an aftermarket stereo there.. The final step I'm going to tackle this weekend.. I'm going to hook the dimmer lights on the stock stereo back up... should look really nice when it's all done....

Finally, I want to put a small sub in the car... what is everybody using? Does anybody have a custom install? Give me some ideas...

Rx-7's are fun, but I have said this before, you want an installation task, try a 7 series BMW or a newer Mercedes Benz Those are COMPLETE nightmares, and I do like 2 a month. I think im the only one in town that will even talk about doing them, I get that 'Oh you guys will put a CD player in it?' LOL

I have infinity speakers in my car. got the 6 1/2 inch splits in the refernce series up front and a lil set of 5 1/2 2 ways also in the refernce series up the back for some rear fill. they sound fantastic and they not really that expensive. the 6 1/2 are the same price as something like the pioneer bullets which sound like C**P.
i've also got a 12" infinity sub waiting to go in, i'll get around to that one day...

here are some pics..

I installed the system in my car....and I'm taking it OUT tonight, lol, the biznitch gets it. I'm going ultra freaking light weight in the seven. I figure, since im getting exhaust, i wont be able to hear my system anyway. If I go and put more speakers...more weight...i dont want that, so theres no reason to have a $600 cd player in my car! So I'm taking it out and putting it in the other car wich has exhaust but isnt as loud (not by a longshot )!
