IMPOSSIBLE TIMING PROBLEM....to me.

Thumbs down IMPOSSIBLE TIMING PROBLEM....to me.

Ok here's the deal.....I have a rebuilt motor i am installing.....it's from a company i won't mention.......(check my sig) I have never had probs in the past with them untill now....they didn't put timing marks on the e shaft pulley.......!!How the hell am i supposed to time this thing..it's so out it won't stay running for long enough....... damnit....please help me..

FYI about setting timing

Here it the way if all is lost for TDC on a rotary.

Here is the procedure to use:
Remove both rear rotor spark plugs.

Rotate the crank until you can see an apex seal (tip of the rotor) in the trailing spark hole.

The trailing plug hole is restricted, making the seal somewhat difficult to see.

Use a flexible light and a mirror. When the seal is seen, mark the crank.

Rotate the crank until you see the same apex seal in the leading spark plug hole.

This plug hole is not restricted, which makes it easy to see the seal. Mark the crank.

Halfway between your two marks is TDC for the front rotor (#1) rotor.

That's all well and good but it won't allow him to find 0* exactly.

I'd recommend using this method to find the approximate TDC and then replacing the pulley with one that already has timing marks so you can time it accurately. Refer to mazdatrix's website so you don't **** up the thrust washer.

so i can pull a pulley off another car and install it on mine and use it to time it?.....I have spare motors with the pulleys with timing marks on them....it'll just bolt on and then time or is there a bunch of lining things up?

The pulley can only go on in 4 ways so once you do what rhino said you'll know which way to bolt it on.

My pulley only goes on one way. Also, the marks change depending upon series and na/turbo.

Obviously you'd want to use the same one but it doesn't really matter as long as you know what angle the marks are at. Anyone with half a clue will add extra marks and set the timing for total advance anyway.
