im looking for reviews (C&D type stuff)

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/help-me-convince-my-dad-329490/ that will give you an idea where im at and stuff.

if you dont feel like reading all that then heres it in short...im about to get my first car and its a gsl-se. i need reviews by like car and driver and that sort of thing, not just what individuals have to say about it. basically i need a lot of the same information that you find when looking up new cars. the main thing i need is safety because thats my moms only concern with the car. i know they arnt the safest cars but anything thats a positive about them for safety will work.

The complete Car and Driver review of the GSL-SE is available online at:

http://www.jimrothe.com/mazda/car-and-driver/index.html

As far as safety goes, these cars are actually very safe. Side collisions give me pause mind you, our doors are fairly flimsy and there isn't much space for crumple zones. If you're in a front end collision, there is two feet of dead space before the rad, giving plenty of room for crumple before engine stuff starts getting broken. Also these cars are remarkably sturdy in rollovers. My buddy (Manntis on this board) had a rollover accident in his GSL-SE, after two complete revolutions and landing on the roof, he crawled out of the car, brushed the broken glass out of his hair and walked away.

In any case, the best safety feature in any car is the guy behind the wheel. I encourage any new RX-7 owner to take a few Solo II events in, so that they can learn the limits of their cars in a safe and fun environment. A driver that knows his car and what it can and cannot do is better than all the airbags and crumple zones in the world, IMHO.

Good luck with the purchase

I agree with ya there, the driver is the most important part, and being comfortable driving the car. I drive every thing from my little mercury to 90,000lb trucks and its all about how you and the vehicle work together. If your not comfortable driving this car or any car you shouldn't be drivng.
