Ignition troubles

I have an '83 with a stock 12a.

It is only running off the two trailing spark plugs. but if i switch the wires from the coils to the distributor cap around then it will run off the two leading plugs. I've swapped out the coils and the distributor(borrowed from my friends car which runs normal). The wires from the distributor to the coils are also deffinately working.

I have run out of ideas, and would greatly appreciate any help.

Sounds like you have a bad ignitor. There are two square ignitors attached to the distributor. The ignition wires run from the coil to the ignitor. The one on the front side of the distributor fires the leading coil. You can swap them to be sure you have a bad one. I have extras If you need a replacement.

ignition isues

Unfortunaly that did not work. I tried switching it out(with a spare ignitor) and the leading ignitor started working but the trailing ignitor stopped working for some strange reason. and when i put the origional ignitor back in then the leading ignitor stopped working again and the trailing ignitor started working again..... which is somewhat confusing to me.

run a jumper wire from trailing coil's + termnial to leading coil's +. this is to ensure that the 12v wire is good.
