Question Ignition switch contact

I was taking off my ignition switch trying to diaglnose one of my problems when I stumbled across a little white plastic box on the back with a contact in it. The box had a green wire and a red wire with a yellow strip leading off of it, I was wondering what this contact is used for and if it has anything to do with the starter. By the way I have an 84' GSL-SE/.

Thanks

Are you talking about the contact that hits the copper ring on the back of the steering wheel?

If so, touch your screwdriver between it and the steering column... DOnt worry it won't damage anything.

BEEP BEEP!!! :p

No the contact is located on the back of the ignition switch, if you look at the ignition switch upside down it is a white small plastic box with two wires coming out.

I am trying to figure out why my starter wants to keep going after I turn it off. I took the starter to autozone to have it tested and they said that it was ok (It looks like it has a mitsubishi simble though, you know the three prong thing) any way I thought the next thing to test was the ignition switch and I was wondering what the little copper contacts did. If they were supposed to touch when the starter went on or what.
