ignition problems?

So my cosmo 13b has always eaten spark plugs for lunch since the day I got it. No matter what I do when I check them they're always black. So I replaced the spark plugs the other day and the next day one of the rotors isn't firing. The plugs aren't fouled or anything. I checked my coils and they're putting out the normal 1.3ohms. I opened up the distributor cap and the one pickup on each set of pickups are burned and chipped a little. They had a little white spot on the ends of them, but it was only one on each set. The ignitor was putting out more resistance than it should 1500ohms, but that was using the method of checking the ignitors that's only supposed to be used in the 1980 model. So what could be the problem here? Would replacing the distributor and ignitors solve it?

Probably not. It sounds to me like your ignition is simply too weak, and your aif fuel ratio is too rich. Replace the cap 'n rotor and look into a direct fire ignition system upograde for the leading circuit. As soon as you've upgraded, you can move the trailing wires to the leading part of the cap.

I have no idea if you've got a carb or whatever, but I have at least two Cosmo engines, and the carbed one runs ok with DLIDFIS. The other isn't finished yet so I can't tell you how it treats its plugs (it will also have a direct fire ignition system on the leading plugs).

Yea it is weak and I've been wanting to upgrade to dlidfis but I have no one out here to help me with it. I understand most of what I have to do, but I have no tools to make a heat sync plate and stuff like that, being a poor college student.

The carb shouldn't be running rich it's a 45dcoe. When the spark plugs don't come out black they come out pretty white. I really need to re-jet it.

Hopefully there's someone in lubbock, texas area that can help me out with the dlidfis. I have all the parts but not the tools/knowledge.
