Where are you drawing the power for the coils from?

Definately sounds like the coils are getting constant power from somewhere.

Wonder if it's your ignition switch?

I dunno if it could be the ignition switch, usually they stop the car from running when bad, not the other way 'round. That plus the constant drain on the battery means that you probably have something wired incorrectly. What exactly did you change ignition-wise?

Using a voltmeter, check the coils when the ignition switch is off. They should not read any voltage. If they do, then that's your problem and you'll have to find a switched power source to power the coils, like the original ignition switch wire.
