Ignition coil question
Well i went to the 2nd gen direct fire TT circuit, and for some reason now it sounds like the 2nd rotor is not firing. is it possible that one side of the 2nd gen coil has gone bad??? i put my timing light on L1 and it flashes great and on L2 nothing??? yes i have checked my connnections and plug wires so now im stumped. is there any way to check one side of a coil? also i got some 2nd gen plugs to put in it but they look different, so do you still just screw them in?? or do you need to do some to them to make them work?? oh and all of this is on a 79 sa 12a thanks robert

Hey Robert,
When you check the resistance, try with the wires plugged into the coil and measue the resistance between the two (L1 and L2). Also take off the plug wires and measure the resistance between the coil posts (should be near 0 Ohms). You can also check the coil by measuring the resistance between the + and - terminal. These terminals are under the plastic cover that says "L1 L2". The resistance should be under 1 ohm.
The 2nd gen plugs do look different. They are called a surface discharge plug. The whole outer ring is the side electrode. Just install them. You don't have to do anything special to make them work.
I believe someone else had this same problem. Can't remember the outcome. I think is was a bad plug wire/connection. I think I posted in it. Maybe try seaching under my name with coil or leading as keywords. I will have a look to.
Good luck.
