2 questions... What do they do and how do you test one. Would they cause my leading ignition to not work? I don't seem to have spark on the leading side but... the car runs. '84 GSL-SE 13B. 3 questions actually.

Swap the leading and trailing ignitors around. If you now have leading spark you'll know that it was indeed a faulty ignitor.

 

Is there a cheap place to get igniters from? are all series 1 igniters the same 12A and 13B?

 

I phoned Mazda today... $557.40 cdn for one used igniter. I need to find them cheaper than that or the Rex is going to heaven. Help please.

 

Try getting a new coil first its a cheap part. I was driving along when all the sudden it just fell on its face felt like it was running on one rotor. It would run but it was guttless.
If you need an ignitor I have 2 extra sets ill give em to you cheap $40.shipped, and if you want to test your own the repair manual says how to test them.

Note: These problems were before engine swap.

 

I'll check both the igniter and the coils this Saturday I'll definitely take you up on the igniters if it turns out to be bad.
