if its not limited slip, then why dont i get one tire fire?

i was doin some 5spd brake stands, and noticed it made some duel tracks on the ground, my passenget said for sure both wheels were spinning... but i have drum brakes on the back which i thought meant that i have the regular rear end... does this have something to do with the fact that i was on level ground, and that i was holding the brakes, and it was in the rain?

the best way to tell it to jack up the rear and turn a tire on one side. if they both turn the same direction, it's lsd.

It was the Rain, If you can get both to Break loose then they will both spin.

One way to cheat a good breakstand is to use a little Dish Detergent on the wheels. Once you get both turning you can keep them turning.

If you have equal traction to both tires, then any diff will spin both tires. Its when theres a difference between the 2 that an open diff will go "one legger".(one tire wet,one tire in a ditch, hard turns making one tire lighter than the other=doughnuts.)

oh, thanks for the help,

do you know if anyone uses a phantom grip(springs and friction plates to give the differential friction agains one tire fire) type setup on a standard rear end instead of a limited slip or is that just dumb?

Those things suck.
Just get a hold of a GSL pumpkin if you want LSD.The disc LSDs have their drawbacks too,but are readily availible and rebuildable.
