Arrow I want to lower the car a little more than 1"...

I really like the way these 1st gens look lowered (they look really agressive) well all the springs i have seen lower the vehicle only 1"...i want to lower it at least 1.5" or 2" at most....does anyone know where else i can look (and i don't want to cut the stock springs either). Also on a side note i do NOT need any type of lecture saying that lowering the car excessively for looks should be left for ricers...all i need is some info for my car...thanks in advance for any help guys.

You're gonna have to do some modifications...you can't go that much without the suspension bottoming out...

You don't wanna go that low. The suspension will always be bottoming out and you will have to be VERY careful on speedbumps. Not to mention the rough ride from the super stiff springs that are needed. I suggest going with a standard 1" lowering spring and using a larger wheel and tire combination to make it look a little lower. Either that or install a ground effects kit.

Don't know about the rear, but this is what I would choose for the front.

Sorry link didn't quite work, go to 79-85 suspension lowering kit, I think.

You could also just get the springs and cut like half a coil off, that would do it. I mean the racing beat or whatever springs... if you really want to go that low.

The standard set up can not be lowered a lot more than 1". You should buy the lowering kit from RB, with new turrets. Without these you have two choises:

1. Riding around with the stiffest springs on the planet.
2. Cut the original springs, and replace the struts twice a month!

Holy **** man...

I've got RB springs and now that they're settling I have to be careful on big bumps not to rub my *stock wheel and tire* combo in the wells!

2 inches would seriously have you rubbing just while driving down the street.

What you should do is get the regular 1" lowering springs, but match them to a larger rim/smaller tire combo, and if your side skirts still aren't low enough for you, get some body kit pieces. You would have to cut the wheelwells out to lower more, and you'd better be lookin' for a show car if you do.

So it's generally accepted that 1" is the max. If you want to go lower than that, that's your choice but you will have to address other issues I believe the coil bucket needs modification? I've seen some crazy things before, I'm sure an rx7 can be lowered more than an inch, but it's not as easy as replacing springs unfortunately.

I thought about lowering my car at first until I realized 1" was max and I'm not modifying the suspension. However if you know a fat couple you could maybe loan them the car for a month or so and when you get it back your springs may have settled that 1" lol

In a recent post, I clicked on codeblue2's car domain site, and in his list of mods he has the RB lowering kit.
His car doesn't look so low that it would cause a problem?
I also would like to lower my car, but the rear concerns me, in the RB catalog there is only a front end lowering kit, in the same advert they state that you can lower the rear by cutting a coil off the springs with no ill effects(other than stiffer feel).
I have read posts here saying that is bad, any positive input?

It may not be the easiest install, but I recomend the Racing beat Lowering kit. Being so low while retaining suspension travel is really nice.

RB's don't "dump" that car low

TMC's are stiff springs and are lilttle lower than the RB's

I saw your car ss7 but it didn't cross my mind it was yours. I wanted to check out the rear suspension. Does it make any noise? I was thinking of going trilink also.

Yeah, the RB lowering kit helps alot. I also cut a coil off eibachs in the back.

yeah too bad, it would have cool to kick it.
The panhard & trilink do make noise, but I am used to it and dont really care anymore. Straight out the box it was worse, but I purchased better teflon coated rod ends with rubber seals which made the trilink a lot less noisy...less sloppy sounding. Come to think of it, I have yet to put the same rod ends on the panhard...something I ment to do after the install and will probably help.
They also transfer a considerable amount of gear and brake noise from the rear axle into the cabin, due to the direct metal-to-metal contact the trilink and panhard make to the chassis threw the heim joints.
But i'll take it anyday over the stock setup. I took the car to streets of willow springs...man did it stick. I'm going again in november...I can't wait.
