hey i have an 84 rx with the 13b motor. i wanted to get an exaust for it but i dont want it to sound like a damn rice rocket like those damn hondas! i dono what kind of exaust my bro said a flomaster but i want the tone to be low at idle and whatever when u rev her up know what im sayin? if u know anything about exausts please give me some info! thanks guys

just get a full raacing beat exhaust from mazdatrix. It doesnt sound like a fart can, not even close.

no, flowmaster on a rotary sounds like ****. It's racing beat or stock, anything else will get burned up, plus they all sound like ****.

And by the way, that is after being shipped TO YOUR DOOR, driven to the muffler shop, having an O2 sensor welded on (for my old gsl-se setup), and everything connected back up.

 

I have an Arospeed bomb muffler and it sounds pretty sweet. Especially at 8,500 rpm.

 

Just so you know, the full racing beat exhaust isn't street legal in CA, if you get the header. I've got the RB header & muffler on, haven't put the presilencer on yet. But, it sounds so much better with just the RB muffler.

 

The $250 muffler from Mazdatrix sounds great : nice low rumble, no chainsaw sound.

I have a Pacesetter monza, unused in the box, for $80 if you want a cheapie. I changed my mind and decided to put another m'trix on the other car.

Racing Beat isn't the ONLY exhaust for rotaries

 

I have a RB header and presilencer into the stock mufflers on my RX7 and my RX4 and they both sound pretty good, although the mini-presilencer on the '80 is a little bit raspy when I get on it. The full-length presilencer on the RX4's 13B gives it a lower tone, very pleasing. All the "turbo" type mufflers I've heard sound pretty buzzy and metallic on rotaries. The header runs about $165, and the presilencer about $130 IIRC. You can always add the RB muffler as your budget permits.

Try looking on ebay too for the RB headers. I picked my header and presilencer up for under $200 on ebay. Barely used.

I installed the RB full system over a year ago. After a week or so the exhaust note changed slightly, as with every muffler I've ever had... but since then it's been consistant with zero signs of wear. Incidentally, mine came with the O2 bung already added.

The fact that (a) the RB system adds 20-25hp and (b) Now Mazda goes to RB to engineer performance exhaust systems for some of their production cars tells me that RB knows their ****.

You can buy one from Mazdatrix, an RB dealer closer to you, or from Racing Beat themselves.

Me too... And install it yourself (I did!)! No point in paying other people to do something fairly simple to your car (but if you gotta meet emissions, that could be tougher to do yourself)
Well, maybe it wasn't as simple as I thought it would be... I needed a grinder to kill the old rusted bolts and LOTS of patience

i have a RB header ...magnaflow cat.... magnaflow full free flow muffler... sound like a wrx at mid rpms... alil too loud though haha...

sets off car alrams with normal driving haha... my friends says its very unique and not like a honda at all ..but like a nice imprt like evo or wrx or sumthin........ i guess i need to hear some one else drive it

 

yes ... its cheaper to have custom made stainless steel exhaust than it is for ME to buy an RB exhaust.

I think you'll find a full RB exhaust is not legal in Cali anyway ... so its no good for this guy either

 

Racing Beat is the easy answer. Tyr to find the different parts used, in good condition. It's also easy to install, so you'll save money.

Sounds a little louder than stock, but not too loud, and once the car is warmed up it has excellent tone.

 

yea thats true, as soon as that header goes on it fails visual in CA. Basically CA sucks for that **** and your stuck.

Unless you go RB or turbo, your car will sound like a chainsaw on crack. Actually, I kinda like the chainsaw on crack sound. There is no other engine that sounds like it.
