I searched...OMP

OK I took a little looking around but couldn't really find anything on it. I'm trying to figure out if my omp is working. If I let the car sit for 48 hours it will have a really hard time starting. If I put some oil or ATF down both primaries then turn the motor by hand about 3-5 time I can turn the key and she fires right up.

I have 2 thoughts on this: compression and/or omp.

For those that know the small history of the time that I have had the 84 GSL, it has not been good. So far I have been able to save her. I don't know if there is a way to test the OMP or not.

Should I just try premix next and see what happens? If it works that would really point to the OMP not working. If you have any Ideas let me know.

When it sits for 48 hours and you attempt to start it. Does the engine crank slower than normal?

Also recommend that you do a compression test.

Now for the question that was asked. Yes, you can test the OMP. The procedure is in the FSM.

Follow the two yellowish/clearish lines that run down from your carb. The lines lead to the OMP. Its ear the main pulley. There's a metal rod (linkage) than comes off the carb down the the OMP. Start up to car, and manualy move the linkage with your hand, and you should see oil move through the lines.

I could snap some pics if that would help.

I don't think that i have ever seen oil move through these lines.

about the turning over. maybe a little. It feels like it it turning over correctly. Personally I don't think that I should be the one to say it does or it doesn't. ever sense the water hose ordeal I can't really tell any thing. I know it sucks the life out of the battery or it seems to .. If i let it rest a sec will turn the car over again. So I would say that Yes it does get harder to turn over after a while but that could be the gas stripping the oil form the apex seals. /shrug

But I will go and check it right now.

Ok they, both of them, are bone dry. Took them off of the carb and tried it as well. No oil at all. So I'm headed to the station to get some premix. Until I have time to get something better than what is at QT.
