I put my battery the wrong way!!!!

My mom gave me her 1985 GSL RX-7 that has been in the garage for
3yrs. I put the new battery the wrong way and I dont know if I messed up the car big time and also I'm not familiar with this car. Doesnt really know where to start! Did I messed it up big time or just something that is not that expensive? Any hint where to start will be helpful.

Welcome to the forum, the hardway.

Below you will find a link to the online FSMs, carb manual and other rotary related reading. Download the 85 Manual and start reading through it. Hopefully, all you damaged were the fusible links on the driver's side strut tower. They are hard to find at the parts store but you can substitute the same underhood main fuses used in the 2nd gens. You need 30/60/30 fuses, top to bottom. Check all the fuses under the dash, replace as needed. If that doesn't solve the problem, get back to us and we'll go from there.

You have not stated if you tried starting the car after you put the battery back in the correct way?

Ouch. Hopefully, you blew the fuse links before the more expensive bits went.

Good luck. Seriously.

Time to download the FSM and carb manual and go through the troubleshooting sections step by step. Don't get ahead of yourself nor skip over any of the steps. Since the car has sat for so long, you will need to go through the entire fuel system and clean it out to remove any/all varnish buildup. This would include but not limited to, fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel filter, carb rebuild, making sure all of the carb components function within specs, all 3 cats are good, air pump etc..

Post all of your smog numbers and perhaps we can determine the cause of your failure. There are plenty of California members including Steve84GS who has a 300hp CARB certified S5 TII swap.
