I don't post much because I don't have a lot to contribute.
BUT.
I may be a owner of a 83 RX7 here soon, 178K 12A 5 Speed.
Car has sat in a shop for 12 years according to the owner. He says the motor and trans are good but needs brake work and fuel pump.
So.
Eager to learn, first rotary.......ive had lots of experience over the years...but rotaries? Teach me!

Go check it out and let us know what you think. Post pics; that always helps.
12 years is a long time for a car to sit... My 240Z sat for 8 and I cleaned and resealed the fuel tank, replaced all the rubber fuel lines, the filter and the pump, replaced all the rubber brake lines, master cylinder and rebuilt the front calipers and rear cylinders. I replaced the clutch master and slave and the rubber line there too. It needed a new battery, new plugs, a coolant flush and all new heater and rad hoses. I also replaced the rear seal on the trans and the diff cover. Rebuilt the carbs. New dist cap and rotor. New tires. All new fluids, obviously.
Cranked right up.
That's the minimum I would expect to have to do for a car that's sat that long. Could you get away with less? Sure. Would you want to? Probably not.
As far as RX-7-specific stuff, just do research and start asking questions. FBs aren't terribly complex cars. Good luck!

I was in the same position as you a few years ago. Does the car run? Mine didn't and it took a lot to get it too. My seals were stuck and the motor needed a rebuild. I did rebuild and port the motor. It was a long trying expierence but I do have it running and driving now and it was well worth the effort. The factory service manual was a great help for me. I also got a lot of help from this site. Good luck.
