the engines will not stand up to detonation and overheating. quick changes in temperature will also kill it. your best hp mod will be a racing beat (rb) header. the k&n will help some but don't expact anything big without upgrading the exhaust too.

What can you tell us about the cars history? in most every way except the engine itself the systems for the rx are the same any any other car the good thing is that the car provides easy access to almost every part than may require service. Your first task is to get the car working as close to original spec and running right before you start to look at upgrades. also keep in mind that for straight line acceleration the RX is fairly slow. (in stock form) it is in the corners that these cars really shine. (once they are working the way they did when new). learn all you can on this list and you should have loads of fun working on your car. In my experiance RX's find owners who are devoted to them and are willing to put the time in to really get em working. It's like they know when the next pay day is and get fussy at the same time and ask for more TLC.
I have said more than I needed to so good luck.
