Angry I just got rear ended

Well as the title says....

Some lady just hit me while I was stopped at a red light. There was a car in front of me and on all sides, so I had absolutely nowhere to go. She smacked into me really hard, probably going between 60 and 80 kph I'd say, and I smoked into the car in front.

When I got out I was just speechless, then I asked her "Are you smoking crack or what?" Then she just started crying lol. The guy in front of me was none too happy with her either. However, I noticed her little son in the back seat, so I decided to cool down a little.

You know it's lucky it was a woman driving. If that had been a guy, I don't know what I would have done..... I really felt like throwing some heaters.

The cops showed up and one of them said "Damn that's a beautiful RX-7... what a shame". I almost started crying.

Luckily the car still drives perfect, I don't think any *real* damage occured. But cosmetically it's a mess. The back end is all smashed in, the taillights are broken, etc. The front end is not too bad, pretty much just the bumper is fucked up.

Anyways, I'm pretty shocked right now, and extremely pissed off. I'll be going to the police collision center tomorrow to file a report.

I'm really worried that the insurance won't cover the cost of fixing it right. Those of you that have seen my car know what I'm talking about - it was ******* mint before, and I want it that way again. I'm worried I'm gonna have to spend a lot of money if I want it to be perfect like it was.

Another thing that worries me is the woman mentioned that she just broke up with her husband, and the car/insurance is in his name. She said she thought he may have cancelled the policy. I don't have collision on my car either. I'll be talking to the insurance company in the next few days though, so I guess we'll see.

All I keep thinking is "Why didn't I drive my Civic today?".

****.

AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!
What a bummer. Hopefully her insurance policy is still good. Don't get in a hurry to settle. My Dad was rear-ended a couple years back, he kept telling them " I feel ok right now, but I want to wait until I'm sure my neck and back don't show any delayed symptoms" or something to that effect. They were very generous with the vehicle settlement. You probably won't get more than a couple grand, tops, though. They only have to pay "fair market" value, which is probably not enough to have fixed it right. Might be enough if you do most of it yourself.

Hope you're not hurt.

sorry to hear Silver!! it's an f'n shame it happened to a 7 in such good shape!! I don't think i would have been as restrained!

i would wait too see if you start to hurt! I got hit a few years ago, luckily i was driving the '79 volare. some punk in daddy's audi got me at a light, didn't even scratch my POS but did in the front of his car. i was already in a bad mood that day and didn't want to deal with it and the kid looked like he was going to cry so i said 'have a nice day' and left. then a few days later the pain started and i swear to this day (some 8 years later) there is still something wrong with my neck and shoulder!! i wish i got the info, maybe i'd be driving a 3rd gen today!

i hope the insurance comes through for you, but one of the 'good' things about these cars is they don't realize how much fun they are and don't think they are worth very much!!

**** man, I'm really sorry to hear this news. These things suck when they happen to any of us, but there isn't anything that you could have done, to change the out come of this. Hopefully the insurance will go through and cover this. I really hope so. I wish that there was something I could do. Actually I have a mint condition complete front bumper in my garage, if you need it, I'll give it to you. Find out whats gonna happen with your insurance and if you need the front bumper call me.

Angry Not another one!

Awwww, Shoooot, Buckaroo....

My Son just lost his 2nd gen to a dumb ***....Know how you feel. But back to reality....It's all history, so let's move on. Do what you need to do to get a good solid insurance check...Given the car's age, I'm sure it's a "total." Start lookin' for another pony, pardner. Be fussy, and picky. Find yourself a nice SE, and go to it. Hopefully you'll be able to use your old car as a really nice parts car...

Very glad to hear you weren't hurt

Stetson in hand, head hangin' low...

Thanks everyone for the kind words and advice.

Denny, I know how you feel, it's been an unlucky month for my family as well in the automotive sense. My sister and her friends got rear-ended a month ago. Those of you I know remember how my mom and sis got smoked by a tractor-trailer on the highway 3 weeks ago and totaled their car. You know, they say bad things come in threes, maybe they're right.

First things first, I'll be going to the doctor's tomorrow to make sure I'm fine. Next I'll head to the collision report center and file the report.

From talking to this lady, it looks like she wants to pay for the repairs. I've been referred to a shop that apparently works on high class european sports cars, etc., and does an absolutely phenomenal job. So I'm hoping to show her a big fat estimate, and get my baby fixed right. I know that if I go through insurance, this probably won't be possible, so I guess we'll see. I imagine that she's freaking out pretty bad right now, and is probably willing to pay me whatever I want so that she doesn't get in trouble.

I'll let you guys know what happens!

Jimmy,

Thanks bro!! We'll see how it unfolds and maybe I'll take you up on the offer

Denny,

My baby certainly isn't damaged enough to get rid of her! I've had her since I was 16 years old, cared for her impecably, and it will take a lot more than this for us to part ways!

Unhappy My condolances.

Sorry to hear that man. It drove, so hopefully it's just body damage. I hope you turn out allright after the doc visit.

You'll get her lookin good again man, I know it. Got any friends in shops? Get he to give you the highest estimate they can manage. Then fix and use the left over cash to mod.
