i hope its not bad!!

ok, i just put in a rebuilt engine with about 1,200 miles on it, not 12,000 but 1,200 and right now it probably has about 2,000 on it. and it smokes a little when i start it, and its white, someone please tell me that new motors smoke a little, cuz if this thing has a bad water jacket i will be extreamly pissed. i have spent too much time putting this damn thing in. so someone either give me some ways to check if i have a bad water jacket, or something about my little problem. the motor has plenty of power, and runs great, but hopfully it will last me a long time.

thanks,
kyle

Smokes white when you start it? Does it go away after a little bit? Many cars will smoke white because of water inside your exhast system. Just push your 7 harder and it should burn out all the water--then no white smoke. All rotaries will burn a little bit of oil in order to lube up the seals--expect some blue smoke.

Basically, if the white smoke goes away after you drive it a bit, then it's perfectly fine.

If it's a LARGE white cloud and difficult to start, especially after sitting overnight, it's the water jacket (ask me how I know). Also, the radiator will have a good deal of pressure when cold.
Hope for the best!

no there is no pressure when its cold, and its a very small amout of smoke, and it starts really easily overnight, all i gotta do is pump it twice, and turn the key, my new engine is wierd though, cuz it doesnt need to choke to stay running even when its cold. i have never see that with a rotary before, but whatever it works. and how do you know about bad water jackets? haha, im guessing it happened to you. well thanks for the advice, it makes me feel about 1000 times better about the new engine. so now i can give er hell a little more i guess. but thanks again
