Their drivers maybe ********, but the cars no matter how over rated are still something to be admired. BMW made little to no money in the middle of the nineties or somewhere in there. And the reason was the were spending boco money in R and D. And in the end they have an awesome product. And as far as I am concerned thats what makes cars fun to drive. I personally don't want a cavalier or G6, no matter if it is "driving excitement". It's this sort of mentality that brought back the rotary in RX-8 guise.
So don't bash. Or if you do, maybe with a little more respect. eh?

I lover the newer BMW's. The styling has improved so much in the past 10 years. There are not that many newer cars that look better. BMW's also real good suspension - it handles like crazy. The only thing I don't like is their electrical and mechanical parts - the are not reliable at all after 5-6 yrs.

If someone is that close to your rear just do a power brake like you were at the dragstrip and leave them in a cloud of smoke. For one they won't be able to see and two you'll leave a bunch of burnt rubber on the front of their car, that stuffs a pain in the *** to clean up. And yes I have done this on more than one occasion. Usually it doesn't bother me but there are those times when tailgaters just seem to get on your nerves.

worse than that, try working on the dammed things, and like when you get down working on it the owner doesn't want to pay you...WTF I spent 25 hours doing a head gasket gasket job on one of the BMW v-8's and the ****** decided not to pay me when I was 390% done (I do hourly rates for non jappanese cars) so I let it sit for 2 months, until the base legal told me to finish it or stop working on cars as a side business, well needless to say I told them to **** off, and just moved my business form the auto hobby over to my house out in town
the ****** that owned the bmw was not happy.

this was meant to show the mentality of the owner, not the car. but they are a PITA to work on, getting data and schematics for them are a pain, and they honestly use more "special" tools than any other engine I have worked on

Bimmers are great, I love the lights, the performance is great, and I think they sound perfect with an aftermarket exhst. Plus the cars aren't too expensive, a slightly used E46 328 can be bought for like 20K
Only problems are that they're not easy to work with, and the E46 has a really bad chassis problem.

BMW's are very well engineered cars... but the people who drive them are usually the problem (not in all cases) - they buy them so their friends think they are cool etc.
I never have problems with people tailgating ;-) be it at night or during the day. First of all after sitting behind me for a while and breathing my fumes they drop back - ALWAYS
, and the fuel cut on decel does some wonders for flaming and popping ;-)
If I'm decelling and select a gear which will have me decel from around about 3000-4000rpm, then just push a tiny bit on my throttle I get a lot of popping and then some sudden loud bangs out the rear
people change lanes or get smaller in the rear view
microtech digi 1 is good for something!

LOL -- in all honesty though a slant six is one of the more reliable designs out there.
My '80 Aspen was one of my first cars I actually SOLD instead of hauled off, thanks to that 225. It had NO vacuum lines, bad brakes, dents all over, and the steering felt wobbly, but for $100 it ran, and in all the time I had it, I beat the CRAP out of it, never died. Love those slants as much as I love thos inlines.

my winter car is a BMW but its a 733i, and the same colours as my rx-7, I think its kind of funny how that worker out, but I hate those a$$holes to, I like to drive really slowuntill they try to pass, and then as soon a they pull out to pass put it to the floor and make sure they gotta go back behind you and then go slow again, I usually do this until I feel justified of they get really pissed and go another way

733i? Mind if I ask an OBDII related question?
Back when I worked at emission control I totally couldn't take the OBDII panel off of a 7 series without breaking it. Literally I never could take it off without it snapping, and everybody at the station was the same way.
How the hell do you take that panel off without it breaking?!

My bad, 360 hp and 270 ft-lb. Terribly overrated indeed. I don't think I'll ever care to own one of those.

Good reasonable posts on the subject. Some of the others here are apparently doing their level best to get shot in a road rage incident.
