I Got It!! Its Here!! My New Weber!!
Ok, well as you can tell, Im a little excited about my new Weber 45 DCOE coming in tonight. After some confusion with UPS and them leaving it at the wrong house, I got it. Its so pretty and shiney, it wont match my color scheme in my engine bay .
I want to make a special thank you to Robert at www.rotaryshack.com. He is the only reason I have this right now. He gave me a good deal on this setup, and worked with my payments. So if it werent for him, Id still be drooling over the pictures of these things.
Anyway, I just got off the phone with Robert, and he is a REALLY great guy, I had a wonderful experiance with him, and I would suggest anyone thats looking for a carb to at least consider him as an option.

Wouldn't the 48 DCO have more power potential? Talked to a guy with 12a stock port switched from 44 mikuni to 48 dellorto and got more power off the bat.
Those are some tall velocity stacks. 75mm/3" tall? Look good in bronze./zinc plating.
That manifold is better than the RB manifold, way to go. I had the Uni Pod air filters on my 12a streetport, worked well, good deal. But when I took it on the road race track and spun motor to 8.5k it did suck the rear Uni pod into the carb, then the front sucked in too. With a stockport you won't have enough vacuum to be there, especailly on the street.

Yeah, I thought about the 48, but the 45 was what everyone else was using...
The velocity stacks are just what came with it, I had no choice in their size.
I heard the one pieces flow better, but once again, its just what was sent to me, I had no choice in it.
As for the filters, I noticed these actually have springs in them. Did yours? I dont rev my engine that high, and I doubt that would happen to me, but these actually have springs inside to prevent that from happening.

I do thin stock port with under 7500rpms will be JUST FINE with these. I didn't have probs until on the track at 8.5k.

I plan on doing all the above, but I know precisely dick about these carbs, so Im gonna stumble my way through this. I plan to learn, and learn I will, its just gonna take some time and books. Anyone have some tips?
As for the install, it looks like Im gonna hold off because Im going to Idaho tomorrow on an unexpected trip with a friend. Dont worry though, I will be getting pictures of it installed for you all soon .

I boutht this book and it really was enlightening and an exceptional resource.
I'd reccomend it to anyone with a DCOE or DHLA sidedraft carb.

HELL YEA MAN! Robert is the ****! i've planned alot of stuff with him as well. i just had to contemplate on whether i was gonna do the 13b swap or stick with my 12a. since i'm stayin 12a i'm getting that exact weber! i'm gonna give him a call when i get my ignitor in. WOOT! good luck installing it and have a few cold ones when you're done for me! hahahaha

I agree with Drivefast7, the 45 is rather small and offers nothing over a Nikki ,and is generally not so tuneable. They look great, I used to have twin 45s on some of my 1.6 litre Lotus 30 years ago. They can make nearly as much noise as the exhaust! The DCOE 45 is also a good carb when you go turbo with a frontmounted IC

i am just curious, cause i honestly don't know garbage about carbs, but why does the 45 weber offer nothing over the nikki? or is the nikki a better carb than we think? please enlighten so as i know what i need to look into. i planned on getting the same weber.

In simple terms the performance of a carb will depend on first the amount of air it can flow and second whether it can flow fuel to match. The Nikki can give you in the order of 150hp at the flywheel with the appropriate bolt on mods. Port the engine and modify the Nikki, this will give you up to 180hp.
A high performance carb will give you more power when the mods are up to a large street port or bridge port. The result will be 180+hp.
A Weber DCOE 45 only flows at the rate of modified Nikki. If you have a big street port then a Weber IDA 48 will give extra power. You can open the 48 up to give even more flow.
The Nikki is a great carb for up to 180hp especially when you use a good air filter such as a K&N.

good luck finding someone who can tune a Nikki carb though ... a weber has a HUGE advantage over a Nikki in that people know how to set them up and parts a plentiful
+ how simple is DCOE compaired with a Nikki !
you can get 48 and 50 DCOE's but they wouldn't run very nicely on a stockport I'm sure !

A friend switched from 44 mikuni to 48 dellorto and off the bat got more hp.
45's are just alittle small for a 12a/13b in my book.

now some one tells me 45's suck, but when i was getting my carb everyone is like oh 45's are great. now i've spent the money and its all togather you people are talking **** about it? wow i guess thats what i get when listening to people in front of their computer instead of people in front of their car...

The 45DCOE Weber WILL give you MORE power than a 4brl. Nikki. Dont worry Hyper4mance2k you will enjoy that carb. I still have mine at work and am now using a 50DCO Wber on my half-bridge, I also got mine from Robert but he was still apart of Mazdaracing.com. I am really disatisfied with the service I got and the product that eventually came. Good thing I had that 45 cause I used the linkage off it on the 50.

hey!!!!! dont worry, when you drive the car with the Weber on it you will know you made the right choice !!!
i have tried every carb in the book, and for a stockport 12a with exhaust a 45 Weber is the best all around carb!....best gas mileage, good driveability,low end torque, and good top end too!
remember..... 45- 48 = 3 mm bigger
also price is higher too
for guys on a budget the 45 is a great deal
and whoever says a STOCK Nikki will outperform a 45 Weber is
