I Got A 7 For Free

CHECK IT!

It has a blown motor (supposedly). It has a GSL-SE badge on it but its got a 12A in it. The owner (tard) said he messed with the carb and blew it. I think it's an 85'. Just got it back tonight so Ill go info hunting tomorrow. YEA ME! No I need to look for a 12A longblock (dont trust his 'messed with' carb)

looks like a definate 12a unless a swap was done. The wheels are a giveaway. Good find though! I also got a free white 1st gen. It came with a blown motor and a good motor from an automatic. All I got to do is swap the counterweights and flywheel from the blown motor to the good motor and I should be good to go.

Wow, that's a sweet find. What's the interior like?

And what are you planning for it?

I thought I might update my thread while Im home for xmas:

First off I cant get good numbers doing a compression check because I cant get the motor to spin fast. Ive gone through 3 different batts (and working with my charger) to try and get some cranking RPMs. I gave up after pulling the tester and seeing it covered in oil (the plugs were covered in oil as well before cranking). And furthermore the carb is half taken apart with all sorts of parts missing. I plan on just buying another motor/carb and keeping the old ones for a rebuild in the future (12A turbo after I run out of stuff to do) so having a core sitting around will be nice.

As for plans on what Im going to do to it: It will start life as an SCCA CSP class auto-x car, and NASA auto-x car (clemson's auto-x is pretty much NASA south east auto-x). Later I hope to move up into track racing but that would be in the not so close future. I just plan on getting a decent auto-x setup going and do all the learning I can.

As for other problems other than the motor: Both windows roll down only slightly then stop... not sure if its due to the same problems as not having enough power to crank the motor. Left headlight motor is bad. Had to buy new bolts for right rear caliper as they were missing. Seat is ripping. Paint on hood has been rubbed off at corners and paint is flaking of the rear bumper (about 5x3 inches). But like everyone has told me so far... ITS FREE! cant beat that.

For the near future I have to get a runing motor in it. Get the windows to roll down. Get good tires on it (toyo RA1's is what Im thinking). And get my first suspension mods going. Springs and shocks seem first. And strip the interior. THEN GO RACING!

I hope to have it ready for the spring.

Take the door panels off and clean the rails and rollers for the window mechanism. Then relube with a spray graphite or white lithium. That should get the windows working, if you have enough power and the switches are good.

Have fun with, it may have been free, but there are very few of use who haven't spent more on repairs and upgrades, than we paid for our cars. Starting with a free car, you are already in the hole.

I just gave away one of my 7s (81 GSL) to a guy in exchange for Ferrari maintenance work. He stripped off some parts I needed for my widebody 1st then sold the body & engine separately which was still running smooth as silk. Had RB header to tail exhaust I should have sold myself I guess. Oh well.
Good luck w/ your new best friend!
