How to tell which year part
I just received my 82 RX7 (literaly - a tow truck just dropped it off). It was towed due to a lack of a registration.
According to the previous owner the car has a 79 engine. What I need to know is if the entire engine was swapped out or just the rotary core (if thats the right term). I am specifically concerned about the following three items: carb, intake header and exhaust header. Basically, how can you tell if they are from the original 1982 chassis or if they are part of the 1979 engine swap? Serial numbers, design, other?
BTW, thanks to everyone for comments on getting the car started (a previous thread). I hope to fire it up this weekend, AND will let it run for awhile to be sure the engine is warmed-up!

Exhaust will look different because its the "thermal reactor" not the "manifold". The thermal reactors I saw were rather cylindrical, the manifolds are boxish. And of course a header is made out of tube
Intake, I know theres a difference, but I cant remember what. It was the same reason people were swapping the SA (79-80) intake manis onto newer cars, they supposedly flow better for whatever reason. It may not be something visable though.
