How to shorten remote on T2 tranny? (searched)

Hey guys, I need a step-by-step guide on how to modify the remote on a T2 tranny so the shifter is in the same place as an FB. I've searched the forums with no luck... does anyone know if such a guide exists?

Thanks
Jon

The tail on a 13b fb tranny should be swapped over, that way you can retain both the driveshaft and the original shifter position if I remeber correctly.

Yeah there has already been a thread. I was going to do another one a while ago with new pictures and a more in-depth explanation however there was not much interest.

Essentially you will remove the shifter holder in the back or "platform" if you will. There are 4 bolts that hold this on. Then take the S3 "platform" off. You should be able to take this off with a 10 or 12mm. The s5 is a little more difficult. You actually have to chop the housing off because the mechanism is held on by a pin. Then you shorten the shifter rod about 31mm my using a hack saw. Re-drill and use the linkage from the S3. There is also a housing that surrounds the shifter rod. You will need to cut this in half and re-weld it. Make sure you take precise measurements since it is a pressed fit.

Put everything back together and you are good to go.

One little tip that I will give you is not to rotate or move the shifter rod once you have the "platform" for the shifter removed in the back.

Good luck,
Z

Hey cool, thanks for that info Next problem is I don't have any FB shifter components anywhere. Might have to fabricate something up from scratch...

Would still be very interested in pictures if anyone has them..

Fabrication of that unit would be really tough. But IIRC you can take a 12a assembly as well. I am pretty sure that it has to be a 1st gen assembly because the second gens had the pin. What happened to your stock tranny?

I will try and get you some pictures. I don't know if I still have the ones that I took. Give me a few days. I am going out of town this weekend.
