How to remove those narrow stripes?

How do you remove those little narrow stripes that run the length of the car? They were added at dealers after car sale. I'm restoring an 83 and trying to find the easiest way. Eventually they'll sand off, but they are tenacious little buggers. Can't just paint over them 'cause they're raised. I figure there must be some easy mechanical or chemical way to get them off.

There is such thing as a pinstripe removal tool. If you do a search in Google, you'll run into a whole mess of them...
