How rare are GSL-SEs??

Im wondering this because today I was looking for parts for my FC at the junkyard and I ran across 2 GSL-SEs. This junkyard is not large by any means, maybe 100 import cars there. I always considered these cars to be incredibly rare and hard to find, and i found 2 at the junkyard. Sorry to waste your thread space but Im just curious.

they are pretty hard to find, but TWO in a junkyard?

I wish there was a junkyard around here with 2...

I've only found one with one SE, and there wasnt much left on it.

I don't think they are that rare. I see them often. Hell, I even have one. It is rare to see one in a junkyard though.

Theres one, or whats left of it at a junkyard out here. I don't think they are that rare, there seems to be quite a few people on this board that have one.

I don't know how many were actually produced, but they only made them for two years.

The only things better than an SE are the beautiful people who own them

Not a rare car, but uncommon. I've yet to see one where I live now. But I know where to get 'em.

There were 97,521 RX-7's produced between 1984 and 1985. I don't know how many of those were SE's, but given the choice back then, who wouldn't buy one?

The SE option added around $6000 to the $10,000 dollar price of a GSL. I would of probably got a GSL also if I was getting one new. Even if you where buying it for a performance reason, it wouldn't be hard to get much better performance from the GSL with the extra $6000.

The main thing missing from the GSL is the broad torque band of the 13B. You may be able to get the GSL up past the stock 135 bhp of the SE, but then you can get the SE's 135 hp up higher still with similar mods and torque is still more favorable

This is true.
I had a GSL with a street port 12a, RB holley intake, RB road race exhaust, 17 lb flywheel, MSD direct fire and a lot of other stuff.

My buddy had an SE with the same exhaust, an air intake, and maybe a couple of small things that I can't remember. Anyway I could just hang with him at highway speeds, but he could always take me from a stop.

Thats one of the reasons I sold all my **** and got a GSL-SE. I also have a 13BT sitting in my garage with lots of goodies. Waiting for money to buy a Haltech and intercooler. Then I will have a GSL-SE-T.

I came across some material sometime back and I believe that they made 7400-7500 gsl-se's in 1984. If that is correct, that makes the "SE" pretty rare....I don't know about you buys but I do not see that many first gen rx7's running around, much less a GSL-SE!!.. There is this guy who has about 35 junk rx7's on his property and he has 2 GSL-SE's in there ...and they have been picked over big time. If you have a GSL-SE, hold on to it...thay are rare in these woods .....especially a unmolested one. (ie: all tricked out)...cjf

They are pretty few and far between around here, but the wierd part is when I see a first gen there's a decent chance it's an SE. The only thing I can figure is that they're more likely to get stored for the winter thus preserving them whilst a higher percentage of non-SEs get driven and end up getting junked. I've never seen an SE in the salvage yards I frequent.

good point ,lotsacars, many may store the SE and then you wee a lot of them in the summer or fair weather days....the lesser models get junked a lot quicker...you may be onto something...I wonder if anyone can confirm for me how many SE'S were built ...like I said, I came across some material and I recall it saying 7500 1984 "SE'S" made...hummm.......cjf

hard to say on final sales figures.

The funny thing is, Mazda expected to sell between 1,500 and 2,000 of the original SA back in '78... and sold almost 20,000.
