How to pull a 12A the gangster way

my buddy and I pulled the old 12a out over the weekend. Have a look, came out of it with only a few minor cuts and scratches. Never underestimate a case of beer and some will power. P.S. My buddy is the one lifting the engine, I was supervising, and taking pictures, haha.

Wow!

I've got a spare 12a outside and I can only pivot it around and DRAG it short distances on my toboggan.

It took 2 of us to pick it up a foot off the ground and carry it the 20ft to the car, then 3 of us to load it into the trunk of my dad's sunfire when I went to pick it up last year.

Beer = the wonderdrink. Must be Canadian beer, the american beer is too weak for that.

Liquid courage has many uses I see. Me and a friend carried an S4 13b from the back of a truck to the corner of the garage and we were pretty spent. Though, in our defense, it had all the accessories on it to include thermal reactor etc.

That is why I invested in an engine hoist. It is a 2ton engine hoist that freakin' weighs 2 tons. I needed a fork lift just to get the box out the truck. lol

Hrm, looks like perhaps a chain by the oil filler/alternator area? Dunno if it is, just looks like one. Either way, I definately wouldn't try that.

Yeah and by the looks of his jacket right on his arm where the engine is, it doesnt seem to be pushing down on it or anything. Now I don't know about you guys but when something heavy is in my arms it tends to slide a little. From the sliding it would tighten the jacket taking the wrinkls out. Am I right? Doubt it, I was just thinking though.

D-ring behind the filter on the rear plate looks pretty taunt. Chop!

LOL something def wrong with the chain and ya buds hands dont look like there straining lol. 3 of us took out my 12A a few years ago with a chain & the bar from my weights lol ghetto style NYC Brooklyn. That bar sure can hold the weight. 2 guys to pull the motor out & the 3rd to help guide it away from the header panel not to damage it THE MOTOR

My previous FB 83 Limited Editon b4 the 13b insert into Bay

I loved this car til i was a dick and drove in the snow & ice and let the ice scape against the underbody and the salt ate the metal like pirranas on flesh sucks

haha i guess i can't pull a little wool over your eyes, nice call on the deformed O roundabout. At least I fooled a few of you into thinking my skinny friend can dead lift over 250 pounds.

Used a 2 ton cherry picker, came out real easy, i wouldn't want to encourage anyone trying to pull out an engine with their bare hands, You could easliy mess yourself up real bad!

Did it about 2 weeks ago. Didn't have anything to pull it out with so my friend and I got in the engine bay and lifted. Didn't even need to see any details to know that was a photo chop. The flywheel is the farthest part from his body. It would just tumble down onto the car. Nice job though.

Yeah, there are some *real* pics of two guys in the Canadian section lifting one out with a 2x4 and some chain... Took both of 'em to do it, but they got it out!

Well, my friend and I lifted a 12A out of my 82. Basically I unbolted anything that could be unbolted, besides the oil pan, water pump, flywheel, clutch and front cover. I just unbolted it from the tranny and we used a pine 4x4 to lift it out. Worked pretty well actually, didn't feel too heavy. I'd guess it weighted in at 250lbs. When I put the new engine in, I used a much too large 3 ton engine lift. This lift was soooo big it didn't even go under the car all the way. The casters made it sit too high and overall it was just a massive lift.

My friends dad lifted the engine out of his 7, but it wasn't with ease like in the picture. He was turning red, vains popping out and all that good stuff. I just dont see it happening. I think the picture is chopped.

yea I posted a pic w/ the parts he forgot to chop circled in red. Otherwise. a good chop.

Also, I thought it looked like a chain, but totally missed the d-ring on the right. A definate chop.

******. I lifted my 13b with intake manifold exhaust mani and turbo all atached. I pulled it out and put it in all by myself. No bullshit here. I put a rope around it and over my back and ripped it out. Dropped it in the same way.

Yea,I dont know about straight up lifting the engine from out over the side and setting it down in one motion, but Ive pulled a number of junkyard engines in steps, by myself. A couple 12A's,my 13B 4 port and my first TII engine, included. It helps when you dont give a **** about the donor car,Id never try this on my own vehicle.

I just pulled everything off the top of the engine, then undid the motor mounts and bellhousing bolts. Then, stand on the strut towers facing forward, grab by the waterpump snout and oilfilter pad and wiggle forward, lift, and place the engine on top of the radiator support.Get back on the ground, and from there bearhug it into the wheelbarrow, and off I go.....
