How much will a header/exhaust affect MPG?

Im planning on throwing a header and exhaust on my -SE. Exhaust will likely be 2 1/2 pipe with a resonator and some kind of free flowing muffler. What kind of MPG increase will I be looking at, if any?

wrong!! If you stay the hell out of the throttle and keep the stock intake and carb gas mileage will go up! You're making it easier for the car to breath and therefore you will get better mileage. On my very first Fb all I had done was a MSD Custom exhaust and a k&n and I could get 27mpg. The key is to keep you foot the hell out of it cause once you punch it then you're using way more fuel than before the exhaust. But in reality your mileage will decrease because you will be driving it harder all the time. I do.

Where do you get your info from?

As hyper stated with normal driving it will increase. I got 3-5 MPG when I installed my header system on my SE.

With the mods that I have done I have gotten as much as 33.5 MPG on my Se.

Ill be making a little road trip, and I need to get the best mpg I can. im planning on the exhaust, and E-fan, and all fresh new fluids throughout. Im thinking between the exhaust and e-fan, I should see a noticeable increase in mileage, especially since its all highway.

you will notice a signifigant increase in mileage on the highway after adding a free flowing exhaust. now the question is, can your ears take the punishment?

By putting on a header and straight pipe to rear muffler I gained about 50 miles or more per tank on the highway for my SA (smaller tank than FB).

Went from about 15mpg to about 19mpg on the highway.

But I could never let my car idle to warm up, it was too damn loud. Just get in, start and drive away before the neighbours came to scalp me.

My SE got a pretty good mileage bump from just a cat replacement pipe. The issue though, is with the extra power I seem to floor it around town too much, making it go back down...heh heh.

flooring it everywhere makes me get about 11mpg... i'm sure i'd get closer to 20 mpg.. except my gf lives up an effing hill. it kills a lot of gas getting up the hill. you guys have any recommendations for going up a hill? i usually go about 3000 rpm in 3rd gear.

what about the mazda speed stickers I hear they are good for +50hp. I think if the foot stays off the go pedal part you should be seeing an increase.

if you're easy on the throttle and not taking off like you've been rear ended by a dump truck, you can see 20mpg+ this is if you engine is running optimally, tire inflation is good, no dragging brakes etc..

I agree with the most obvious reasons stated above for a mpg decrease. If you can find the right doctor, just tell him about your car and your new "AWESOME" exhaust, and you might be able to get a ritalin prescription.
Hyperformance2k is an exception to this rule because of the immunity he's built up over sooo many years of A.D.D.
