Hey now, be nice to neons, I love my neon. It's just not as fun as my rx-7. :P

Got an '83 with 155k original miles, has a small oil leak (sounds like a dowel pin, symptoms are similar but I haven't done any in-depth troubleshooting), I bought it just 3 weeks ago and I'm gonna do so much crap to fix that thing up it ain't even funny. ;) Getting ready to get a spare 12a rebuilt, ported and tuned and slap that sucker in there, not sure the mileage on the spare 12a though.

iv gota 12a with 40,000 miles and has 120psi

gypsyvk 08-01-06 08:00 AM

I just took the engine out of my 82 and it had 343k on it. The apex seals are shot. I have a 85 1.1 with 170k ( no alterations to the engine itself) and there are no signs of any problems. I also have a 84 (auto transmission) with 155k and no problems. My other 2, a 84 and a 83 are modified. the engines were ported and rebuilt and the 84 is supercharged.

hey one of ur air cleaner clips is unclipped.

hafilax 08-08-06 10:58 PM

I have an '83 S - I am the 8th owner. Original owner was a woman who went shit crazy and disappeared. Owners 2 through 7 all got their wife/girlfriend pregnant and had to sell to finance diapers. (Knock wood). I have met 3 former owners - one a cop who pulled me over to "drive it one last time". I have owned it since '93.

Anyway it has 163km with the original 12A. All stock, never been touched. Total of $332.81 spent on engine repairs in 23 years.

blue88vert 08-08-06 11:07 PM

We have owned an 88vert since 1989. Non-turbo, just had rear rotor go, and had it rebuilt at @109,000. It runs better than ever, thanks to Banzai Racing who only do rotary rebuilds.
We plan to keep it forever.

Order of owner ship unknown....101123K on original motor in an 85 Gsl-SE. Sat for seven years before wifes uncle gave it to me...all because of the secondary clutch thingy... got a new one...un froze the motor(very little effort) and i drove it for 1500 miles and it started actiong up (go figure) see my post on my problem titled 85 Gsl-se runs for ~8mins then splat lol. :shocking:

PATZ 08-09-06 11:58 AM

challer2000 08-09-06 03:12 PM

fatwake 08-09-06 09:45 PM

'79 SA - 96,3XX miles - second owner, no mods - runs great

silver80sa22c 09-24-09 09:42 PM

have an 85 gs bought a year ago with 72,xxx on her and just hit 90 2 weeks ago and still runs strong only replaced clutch. i love this car! :)

vipernicus42 09-25-09 07:03 AM

84GS, 230k km, 7.1kg/cm2 on all faces of all rotors @ 300rpm crank speed, car has been in the family since '89 so I know for sure it has never been rebuilt.

Puts down 105rwhp even though those compression numbers are borderline rebuild according to the FSM (though the upgrades around the engine help. I can only imagine how much more powerful it'd be if it was rebuilt!)

1980 LS with 61K original miles. original engine and trans. everything else i have, i've replaced the engine.

jlk69 09-30-09 09:45 PM

I think I just beat everybody with most miles on original engine and transmision. 255,000 miles 84 GSL-SE second owner (oil leak from oil cooler)

rotaryPOWAH 09-30-09 09:57 PM

My white car (pictured in avvy) has 126k miles, never rebuilt, and she sings like a brand-new engine. My brown car (the turd) has 190k, and it runs so-so (probably due to shotty rats nest removal and carb tuning).

I don't think either car lacks compression, but i bet the turd's engine has seen better days.

(Both are '85 GSL's by the way)

126,xxx mi and still going, havn't put boost to it yet, just rebuilt the turbo waiting on downpipe flange and weld elbows and lm-1. We'll see how long it lasts after i put some squeeze on it:):):)

thunkrd 10-04-09 07:56 PM

185 thousand miles 1985 gslse. still running fine, just some small jitters in the idle
