Had an 84 gsl with 270,000k - but then it puked.
|
116,000 miles on my '84 without leaks, never had a carb rebuild, had the clutch replaced at least once. My '83 had 130,000 miles on it before I pulled the engine, but it sat for four years straight before I bought it and developed oil leaks from the housing to iron cracks. Now its getting a street port, and possibly a turbo if I can scrounge up the money now that I've lost my job.

85 gsl original 12a w/ 189,000 odo still runs strong!!!

85 GSL-SE. 2nd owner. 129,883 miles. Zero leaks. Uses between 1/2 to 1 quart of oil every 2500-3000 miles which is when I change the oil.

84 GSLSE with 104,800 miles and I think it is the originals. runs strong.

I believe the engine in my 82 was original when it went at 275K KM. Thats about 190K miles. Had about 90psi front and rear, and that was with a slow starter. It would start right up on the first try every time. I'm still not totally sure what made that apex seal shatter, but I'm guessing detonation as I did drive the car hard and it seemed to have a popping sound in the engine, but I dismissed it as the steadily stretching belt I used from the main pulley to the water pump flapping around. Guess I was wrong. BTW, I'm the 7th owner of this car I believe.

|
3rd 200 000kms

193,000 on original 13b - these engines have well-deserved reputation for longevity given their 3mm apex seals, location of the sealing 'rubbers', and for intake systems that complemented wringing them out (and keeping them carbon-cleared).
Still running strong, and got 29.73 MPG on the highway this morning! (Wondering if my '6'-ports are still working right!?!) |
1985 Rx7 GSL 172,000. 10,000+ last april-october.
