I've got 162,500 miles on my 85. It runs fine and pulls pretty strong for its age. I'm looking to rebuild it soon.

OK, I am soon looking at getting an engine rebuild, but I only know of Atkins. I have heard other names mentioned but I'm not sure about that stuff. Any suggestions, all are welcome. As I said before my engine is near 200,000 miles on the engine and I want a rebuild or replacement, soon. She runs great and I want to keep it that way.

my 79 had 180,000 when it died... it was very obvious that the previous owner rarely changed the oil. the last 5000 miles were the most fun... she spewed so much smoke that i had the fire dept called on me 3 times! my 84 gslse had about 75k on a rebuilt and ported 13b. the car itself had around 250k. the one thing that kills a rotary faster than overheating is concrete construction barriers. my current 82 has 150k on the clock, but the engine was locked when i got it due to 8 years in a garage. the replacement 12a came out of an 85 and i'm guestimating around 85k on it... still running like a raped ape.

765 miles and it runs great. I'd highly recommend Atkins Rotary for parts and service.

'83 12A, 51K on the original motor - OOOOH BABY, I'll never sell this car. 90K on my 1999 Malibu daily driver - talk about opposite ends of the car spectrum

Thumbs up 197000 on my GSL-SE, but..........

the standing record I've witness first hand is over 400,000 miles and going strong.

Was at my local Mazda dealer awhile back talking to a mechanic on this subject. He pointed at another GSL-SE (testimony for the bullet proof rep mentioned earlier) that was owned by a salesman that is on the road all the time. Said he has been servicing the car since it was purchased, so knew it was the original engine. Looked at the odometer, 412,739. I was so impressed, the number stuck in my head.

A older woman, like 65, came into my dealership a week ago with a 79 with over 650, 000.

Lots of rust but the there was no listing of major engine work or swaps on carfaqs. She had come it for a oild change and was very specific what kind of oil we use in the car.

When she left it sounded like she wound it up pretty high before she shifted.

I wouldnt of noticed but my friend down in service came to me, He was like "you got to see this car, it got over half million miles"

it was ugly as **** though. faded brown with a ton of rust.

I think mines original, with a freshly cracked 82K miles on it. But I have no way of finding out, cause the lazy *** bastard of an excuse for a DMV in Oregon doesn't keep track of that **** on the titles after a car turns 10.

When I transfered the title to Washington, I got that lovely line that says exempt, instead of my milage reading.

But I'm not bitter.

'79 GS died from a water seal failure at 220K.
'83 GSL died from low comp and bad tubular dowel leak at 150K.
'84 GSL-SE major engine problems at 140K.
'85 GSL-SE running strong at 75K.
All of the above in miles.
