how hard is it to cange a motor?

i have ( many times ) pulled a small block chevy out on fri evening and had the new one in and driving late saturday!

how involved is it to swap 2 complete 12a's compared to 2 v8s?

im asking bec, i want to port but cant pass emissions if i do. I can get a stock 12a for 200 bucks as a back up/ inspection motor!!!!!!!!!

I'm in the middle of this right now... if the weather would cooperate with me, it could be done in two days, assuming you've got an engine hoist and all that good stuff.. It's probably a little more difficult than an old domestic V8 if you plan on keeping all the emissions systems intact and functional.

it's pretty easy. If you do it the first time it'll take some time searching and trying, second time will be rather straight forward, third time you'll wonder how fast it goes. To explain you how easy it is: to change the clutch you don't pull the gearbox, you'll pull the engine, it's easier. This isn't just a story, it's the truth.
However, if you need all the emission controls, that'll make it slightly more complicated. And the first swp might also take extra time because of all the rusty bits on the exhaust. Once you get that solved, the next time shouldn't take more then a day work.

Too bad there's no engine swap/pull thread. I need mine pulled out for a rebuild, but I guess I'll just let the mechanic deal with it.

I pulled the entire engine and tranny with almost all of the emissions and sensors still on the engine. I were to do it again, I'd bet I could have the entire engine out in 3hrs, and back in (once work on it is finished) in about the same, maybe a 1hr more. Honestly, the 12A is a pretty easy engine to pull.

well if i get busy and none bothers me i can have a engine pulled in a hour flat, (12a) it takes me about hour and a half to put back in (by myself) a little longer on a fc. im going to try to beat my record some day. i guess ive pulled sooooo many of these things i guess i know where every bolt go's! but other than that, its a fun easy job!

it should be easier... a rotary motor is small compared to piston engines... although I've not done it, but seen people at the yard pull out a motor in 50 mins(they all cut the wire though)... but you pulled out motors before... so there shouldn't be any problem...
