I think I may still have a perfect black carpet for 1st Gen. out in my ultra-plush two-story walk-up tiki lounge/rotary museum.

Well, well, well. I got all the carpet out, finally. It's currently dyeing black out on my deck.

Now, I decided to see how the dye would do on the plastic parts. It didn't dye well with warm/hot water, so I decided to do it on the stove.

The water is NOT boiling. Remember, super hot water + plastic = melting, so be careful.

Here's one of the A/C vents. Notice how faded it is.

And here's a comparison shot after I hot dyed one:

Here's another before and after:

Now, all I did for these was dye them Navy Blue. I will be hand dyeing them black later tonight after the kids go to bed. The carpet is currently dyed Navy Blue, and will be going to black later as well.

Here's some updates:

The carpet is now black.

I'm gonna hit these two "leather" parts with the leather dye, and that will be that.

Here's the dash. It actually looks a bit maroon because the sun was setting while I took the pics. I'll take some indoors tonight, but it's coming out nicely. I gotta get some q-tips to do the tight spots.

Here's a decent close up so you can see the difference.

I am trying to dye the rear carpet right now and it doesnt want to take the dye like the front carpets will. I am talking about the rear hatch carpet. Also for the harder plastics are you using a different technique to dye them other than soaking them cuz i tried the storage bin lids and nothing for about 4 hours and it barly looked like it took any dye at all. Do I need to really dilute the water for this I have 4 bottles of black and 6 gallons of hot water in a cooler in the sun with the lid closed?

The hotter the water, the better for that. If it won't take the dye, then you either have to go to a different dye or paint them.

Ill try hotter water and more dye still ought to be cheaper than buying new rear hatch carpet.
