how delicate is the combo switch?

I got the turn signal/light selector stuck when I took it off the column. I'm pretty sure I f'd up the spring ***** b/c I remember f'ing them up. I took off the brass plate like a dumbass and the two little ***** that control the brights popped out. I got them back in and the plate back on but the brights are stuck on, and they aren't on a acc circuit so they are always on.
anybody fixed this before? take it all apart and rebuild it, possible?
oh and do I really need the cancel ring?

I can't help you with the other stuff, but as for the cancel ring. You don't need it if you plan on manually cancelling your turn signals... but if i were you, i'd just leave it there. Its much easier like that.
