how to clean internal of n rb presilencer

i got this from this one from a junkyard with bad motor as engine oil dripped out of the exhaust during disassembly. has anyone tried to clean the honeycomb with simple green, purple degreaser or etc? thanks

Interesting. I've never tried, but if packing is oil soaked, I'd say, as a cook, to submerge in a big tub and boil it out. With simple green or similar product. Rendering a presilencer, as it were.

My first car, and RX7, had a custom exhaust on it. It has a RB dual outlet header to Magnaflow resonator (acting as a presilencer). Due to a few reasons, a lot of MMO/oil was fed into the motor thinking a seal may be stuck. Long story short, it saturated the resonator.

This never gave me any issues, but let out a dense cloud of smoke whenever it back fired. On one occurrence it actually provided a smoke screen to distract a local officer from my friends playing around in front of me. It was a spy mod

I can't remember if it reduced in smoke density over time though.

If the internals are stainless, I'd try the heated Simple Green bath, as suggested above, if it were me.

And tilt one end up, roll periodically, to allow oil to rise to surface.

my friend had an FD. one night @7000rpm on the freeway one of the turbo shafts broke, which emptied all the oil from the engine into the exhaust.

so a set of new turbos later, it started and smoked a bunch, then it mostly cleared up, but the oil in the muffler took a couple/few weeks of driving to clear up, it takes a while for it to get hot back there!
