How to clean foggy lens?

Is there a way to clean a fogged up taillight lens? I read one post in which the lens was heated in an oven then separated. Is there another way?

If it's foggy on the inside, then the outer cover must be seperated to clean it up.
If the foggy look is from the outer cover being faded/scratched on the outside, they can be polished with a fine metal polish such as mother's mag and aluminum polish.
You don't have to heat the lights to get get the covers off, but it sure reduce the chance of cracking the covers. Oven, heat gun, or hair dryer are the easiest ways to heat the lens and soften the goo holding it together.

The foggy lense is more than likely dust that has got in between the outer lense and the reflector portion.

Searching with the term tail light will bring up many threads as one that I found here.

The outer lens in both of mine was clouded from too many years parked in the sun. I replaced them for $45 each from atlantarx7.com.

There are plastic headlight polishing kits available at most parts shops, too. Usually consist of polishing suppiles & instructions. Never had to use one yet, but I can see the wife's Maxima will eventually need it.

Should work just as well on colored plastic as on clear.

NOVUS Lexan polish #2 works great on headlights and tailights.
