How badly did I mess up?

A couple days ago my car started to idle a bit rough. I figured I needed to clean the carb. I bought some carb cleaner and tonight went to clean the carb and noticed that the rod that comes from the oil pump up to the carb was disconnected at the carb. I had to have put somewhere around 50 miles on it since it disconnected. Did I really do some damage?

Most likely not but start premixing just to be on the safe side.

yeah its not the end of the world. Ive heard of people running no OMP and not premixing for much longer than you have with no major effects.

So either hook it back up or like nick said start premixing. There will be stacks of stuff around the forums regarding premixing.

Take it easy

If it is still working, just hook it back up.

Of course when I was trying to blow my engine I ran it with barely oil in it at all, and it didn't seem to have any really damaging effects. (when I say barely any oil at all, it was under 2 quarts).

I had an SA in the shop last month and we found the mop rod was disconnected. The car hadn't been in my shop for 6 months, I'm sure I hooked it up after the carb rebuild, the owner hadn't touched a thing. No way to tell how long it had been run without being connected, but we found no ill effects.

I have heard of rotarys running for several thousand miles without the mop rod. When I bought my 1st rotary, a 2nd gen, I found a rod going to the throttle body disconnected. Not knowing what it was at the time, I hooked it up. That car is still my DD and I have put a little over 30k on it since I bought it, runs great, good compression and no smoke.

Thanks... That's great to hear... I just installed that 12A and it has 70K miles on it and I want to treat it right.

Maybe it's just me but now that it's hooked up it feels like its running smoother and it idles better.

maybe just peace of mind there. although it could run better with oil in the combustion chamber, upping the compression a smidge and that could be where you notice your better running onditions

It is a rod that is connected to the pump that is located low on the passenger side front of the engine. It travels up and connects to linkage on the carb that moves with the throttle.

There are also 2 small hoses that lead from the pump up to the carb as well.

Here is more detail

2 oil feed lines on the 12As, 4 lines on the SE 13Bs.
