Horn Problem
Horn Problem
When I got the car, I noticed if you pushed the wheel hard enuf, the Horn would sound, but now, the Horn seems to sound off alot more. Downshifitng into a corner on the way back, it went off, and before that from a standstill start, it also went off for a sec. Anythign I can do to fix it myself?
If you pull the fuse (so that the horn doesn't keep going off) you should be able to pry off the center steering wheel cap carefully to reveal the workings of the horn. At least that's how it works on my '84 and '85 Rx7's (not 100% sure about the earlier models). Once the cap is off you'll see how it works - very simple actually. Maybe a spring is broken or there's something wedged between the contact plates... If you successfully open it up I'm sure you'll be able to see the problem.
Yeah ok. So just pry off the rubber horn cover and you'll see that it's pretty simple... It takes a bit of force to remove the cover but take your time, and be careful not to crack the emblem or scratch your wheel.
My 85 GS did that at midnight once.
Pull the fuse or disconnect the battery. You should just pop off the center cover using your hands, its rubbery should come right off. There will be 3 or 4 screws holding in a ring around the horn. To fix it for now, just tighten those screws down. To fix it forever, pull them out and put some Loctite on the end then screw them down.
