Hood release cable broke, help

This actually has happened to a lady on another site. But, her hood release cable broke, evidently up in the engine bay, she can't reach it with vise grips. Any ideas on how to open the hood without tearing it up?
I have wondered about this for years. Thank god it has never happened to me.
I had a friend who had a Jag who had this problem. But, Jag put a couple of access holes in the front wheel wells for just that problem.

I had this problem no more than a few months ago... I had to jack the front of the car up and get underneath (australian rx7 car so steering column on the right hand side of the engine bay) I reched up on the passenger side (LHS) of the car around the engine and I had to work my arm past some aircon stuff and I managed to reach the latch with a screwdriver and unhook the bonnet was an absolute bastard of a job

You can lift the passenger side corner of the hood - ***very very slightly so you dont bend the hood*** and slide a yard stick or something flat like it and push the arm towards the drivers side to pop the hood.

learned this at a body shop - worked like a charm -

***be careful not to bend the hood.
