They are obviously not wanting to sell it if they are asking for 6k and its an automatic as well. Plus, Marc, I think yours looks better to begin with.

This particular dealership doesn't have showroom. They (the whole Mazda dealership section) are **** upon by the ownership group. They work in small portable trailers. I go here for service on my 8 and I've seen everyone's working conditions. Ok, rant over sorry .

Marcello, I saw that car last night and ALMOST hit a car because I kept looking going "NO way do they have an FB, NFW!" .

exactly! couldn't have said it better. if anyone does buy it, i just hope they are smart/mature enough to care for it and (i can't believe these words are about to come out of me about ANY car, but especially an Rx-7) leave it original.

That place always has high prices though. I went by there to look at a used miata and they wanted 3-4k over blue book for a trashed out miata. They don't want to let people take test drives, and they don't want to bargan at all. When I had my FD there, I think they offered me 3 or 4k for it when I walked up. The place out at 10 would be been a better place to have that guy advertised. Nice to see a dealership with it at all though.

What you guys are forgeting is that having an automatic is a luxury. Pretty much any car that is available in a standard that has an auto option is going to cost more. No different with this car.

So what is it really worth???

So what other sports car would you buy for $6,000 that would be nicer?

The fact is that RX-7s in that condition are not really that rare - its just that most of them are someone's baby and are NOT FOR SALE. Four years ago I found a 1984 GSL with 63,000 miles, same brown leather interior, automatic, with a bad motor. I paid $1500 for it, and my Mazda friends said no way, it is not worth that much. But I thought it was a bargain.

I had just built a hot rodded Ford 302 motor and was looking for a nice 1st gen. It was perfect for me, I even adapted the shifter for my automatic. So I have about $10k total invested now, driven it about 20k miles. And by the way, I have recently been offered $10k for it.

Sure, you can buy a beater and repaint it, rebuild the engine, put on fancy wheels. But once the interior is worn out, you just can't make it that nice without a huge amount of time and/or money.

Not bad, i like it. Too bad i only payed 1000 for mine with 82,000 miles on the original engine.

It's been repainted-at least in front. The front tie/hold downs weren't painted body color stock. Rare color though, and looks great. I could see the right person paying $4000-$5000 for it. 'Course he'd have to be a bit of a sucker...

Your information is a little off, Mazda is a "Profit Center" for FMC their interest in it will not change...

the factory - its cherry - turn key and drive

you do undersatnd (and I'll post this in the lounge as well) the dealer has to show some idiot a $2000 trade in value for some jusnkyard piecs of **** trade in. So in essence he probably will knock off a grand then "give" $2000 trade in for a car that has an actaul value of $8.73 making the real price of that car $3000. Or you could just offer to pay him $3k on the barrel head and drive it home.

I have a mint 88FC on my lot. You guys would **** your pants laughing if I told you what we're asking for it.

But......it'll sell.

A hard core rotor head isn't going to buy that car. a total newb will. It's gonna be the kinda deal where someone sees it, get's all exited about it, and buys it based off emotion rather than doing some research and scouring the small print classifieds in their local paper for a year to find the same car for $2500

Things are worth what people will pay for them. Kelly Blue book can eat a dick. There are probably hundreds of people out there who would buy that car for that crazy price.

dont do it. The bastards told me "4995 cash. mint condition." I dont think the dent in the drivers rear side under bumper classifies it as mint. Not to mention all the oil spray underneath it. he may have cleaned it a little since but dont think they fixed that leaky pan.she is beautiful yes but too much.

There is a 81 at the dealership here in Atlanta... They are asking $9995. Now... It has a rebuilt engine and transmission. Leather. CD. Sunroof. Keyless entry... Very nicely put together. Story goes that it was a mechanics at the dealership and he bought and RX-8.

Heh, the local Mazda Dealership tried to sell me an 84 GS for $8,995 a couple months ago. Interior had several tears, the odometer read 220,000 miles and there where bits of rust on the underside. Best part was that it wouldn't start, the previous guy flooded it, and the guy trying to sell it to me was hinting that they were having fun in it before I got there.

No idea what they're thinking...
