holley, to realay or not to relay

Has anyone run into problems running the stock fuel pump wiring "20 amp circuit", on a holley fuel pump? i.e.

im pretty sure my little brother was using stock wiring for his aftermarket fuel pump (msd). He replaced the wiring and hasn't had a problem since, and yes he uses a relay for the pump.

I had problems with factory wiring so I replaced all the wiring and put in a seperate switch.
