holley carb
Ok i bough a holley 600 cfm carb and racing beat intake today. I have been doing some searches and could find any good pics of holley's installed on cars. Would like to see pics. The carb is not a racing beat so i am tring to find out what the differance is and where to find the model at on the carb. So can rebuild it. Thanks Nick

hope these are able to help you out. honestly though im not sure if its working right because when its idleing and i manual activate the throttles to about 8k rpm the secondarys wont open. im hoping that with the vacuum of when the car is actually driving it kicks in. cause if not, then i have never felt the full power of my streetported 13b and everything else i have done to it.....F word, i hate technical crap

Ive read that there is no chance of vaccuum secondaries openening in neuteral (if thats how you were looking to see if they open), it needs engine load to porperly open. Also, you can change the diaphram spring to a lower tension one, and with the right one it could just about bee a double pumper

I got it on and had my car running for about 10 min. the uel feed lines would not fit had to put them on backwards and the throttle is different so i got to address that this weekend

600, is a 600. Vac secs, no metering block on the secs, Model 4150. Once you buy a secondary metering block it is now called a 4160. This sec mtering block allows jets to be changed in the secs.

Ok i am relly confused on this. I dont really care now i just wann get my car running. tring to get some people that are better at doing fab work to come take a look and help me get the throttle hooked up. I also gotta get the holley fuel pump installed i think that is why it dies.

What engine mods are you running? If you're stock port 12A then 600 cfm Holley is way too big, you're secondaries will never open and you won't get the fuel economy benefits of having a four barrel. You'll be running the equivalent two barrel like a Weber/Dell'orto.
I have a draw through Cartech turbo system that uses a 380 cfm Holley and that is big enough to handle the demands of the turbo at up to 10 lbs boost.
If you think changing to mechanical seconderies is the solution - it ain't. Read the posts. You'll never get the right performance or good fuel economy. My turbo still gets 27 mpg highway if I stay off boost.

Kool broke i got to figure out how to get the throttle cable hooked up. As far as this bull about Fuel economy i dont give a **** about that i just want a good running rx. I understand a 600 maybe a little big for my motor. And as far as swiching to mechanical seconderies i dont even know enough about the carb to tell you if it is mechanical or not i dont think i said it was. But if i did my bad read MY post agian not every1 elese.

Didn't mean to criticize you - just wanted to save you from a lot of work when ultimately it may all be in vain. I think you won't be able to tune your monster carb to work. You'll need to rejet and replace the power valve and the cost of hit and miss buying the wrong size and trying it out will really add up. You may not care if you get 20 mpg or 10 mpg but if you run too rich or too lean anywhere on the power curve you won't get the performance you want which is why I assume you went with an aftermarket carb.

Reread your posts, sounds like you used to run Dell'orto. IMHO a much better carb than the Holley and just a Weber except better construction. How come you didn't stick with that? I had one and only went Holley because of the Cartech manifold design. Holley don't tune nearly as well and have issue with fuel starvation with lateral g forces due to fuel bowl design.

I sold my dellorto to get the car that is in really good shape no major rust problems which i had with my 80. I was only gettting 10 mpg in my 80 anyways. Only reason i went aftermarket is because i have NO clue about the stock with all these vac. hoses. Nikkie just looks like a pain in the but to work with. Sorry if i was kinda shiity. Ireally dont no anything about carbs other than dellorto and really dont know much about that.

In all honesty, I was intimidated when first looking at the Nikkis. Once they are stripped of the emissions and extra crap, then modded by PB&J, (Carl/Sterling), you will have a better carb than a Holley, and easily tuneable, with less problems and better performance. The nice part is it's cheaper in the long run too.
I have 2 Holley set ups that I will be happy to sell for anyone who wishes to fuss with them. I prefer the 2 barrels and Nikkis, personally.

well i tried to contact pband j and never got a reply back plu i got the holley and intake or only $250 which i thought was a good deal. Still having problems gettting it running and keeping it running. I am sure some of that might be because i havent swaped over the holley fuel pump yet.

Holleys want to see closer to 6psi for fuel pressure, the stock pump does between 2 and 3 psi. So you'll need an aftermarket pump and I recommend getting a Fuel Pressure Regulator.
Apart from that, my personal experience with holleys ends. But I can tell you one thing: Too big a carburetor is just as bad (if not worse) than too small of a carburetor. And 600cfm is WAY too big.
As an example, IF your engine had a Volumetric Efficiency of 100% (meaning it could take in an air/fuel charge and spit out exhaust at 100% efficiency throughout the whole powerband), your engine would not max out a Holley 465.

I have a RB holley and it's been nothing but a pain in the *** sence I got it.
It's been recalled and replaced by racing beat and the new one they sent me doesn't even work as well as the one they took back.
It seems to make good power at WOT in a streight line, but thats it. It doesn't like to cruise without bucking and it hates to turn left.

Edelbrock seems to be the way to go....I'm still doing my research but it leaning towards the Edelbrock 550cfm manual choke w/ adjustable secondaries! W/ my large street ports this should do. Also from what I gather these carbs are much easier to tune than a holley!
