high schoolers- how much do you pay for insurance?

Well after getting my lisence, I got a nasty suprise. Insurance costs. $2300 a year!! And yes, I do have to pay for most of it, and that's with the good grade discount and drivers ed. discount. So how much do you pay, and do you pay for it yourselves? I know many of my friends have their parents pay for it. Just wondering.

Drop comprehensive coverage, that's for theft or vandalism. Both of which I bet are unlikely in your neighborhood. May look at dropping collission since the cars are so cheap, they're almost disposable.

I get *** raped in insurance. I am young, and I am a boy. Here in south Ontario, Canada, I pay like 2500$ a year. That is the best deal I could find, and I have drivers ed, and my mom gave me her discount points and ****.

It will drop in april though.

To all you high schoolersout there, here's some incentive to drive safely and responsibly:

I'm 22. I've been driving since I was 17 (so basically 5 years). My driving record is completely clean.

I pay $400 for 6mo for insurance because I've been driving 5 years without incident. I'm no longer in the "high risk" insurance category because I've been a responsible driver.

Something to think about.

Don't forget, age is also a factor, not counting the car. I don't know how Canada is, but in the States, when you hit 23, your premium drops a little bit. Once you hit 25, it drops even more. So 25, here anyways, is the age limit. Along with having a clean record. So, try to drive safe and not be a jackass so that you'll live to see that age.

P.S. Be mindful not to cut off large trucks and expect them to stop on a dime. I hate it when dipshits do that.

im 16 about to be 17 been driving since the day i turned 15 i have the good grades discount.. drivers ed and a clean record (knockin on wood).......im only paying around $800 a year and thats me cheating the system by not listing under my rx-7 im listed under my moms 94' volvo wagon with over 200,000 miles....

my sister age 22 is paying over $1500 a year because when she was 16 she got 3 speeding tickets and got in 2 wrecks (in that sweet volvo wagon "im driving"haha) and because of her our boat insureance is higher because of those wrecks and tickets even though she has never even gone out on my boat

mine was 135$ a month, but that was after 2 car wrecks, 4 speeding tickets, 2 driving with out a license, and 1 for having to many passenger that were not properly secured. Needless to say I didnt have my license back until I turned 18. now its 140 a month. Not bad really.

Full coverage, with 1000/500 deductables, a 1st and 2nd gen and an 00 Chevy 1 ton dually box van, less than 1500/year for all 3 total. It pays being an old fart somedays. A friend of mine who just turned 21, had his insurance cancelled when he went to renew it, they decided his 7 was a sports car.

I laughed when talking to my insurance guy the first time. Partway through the call he said "what year is that car again?" and I said '84, to which he replied "Well that's a 20yr old car! That no longer counts as a sports car"

Who am I to argue, I pay less insurance this way.

I am 18 and I am on my own for insurance I pay $130 a mounth for my 1985 rx7 gs and 1995 gmc sonoma 2wd. I carry the bare minimum through state farm. I have had no acidents that were my fault but i have had a ticket for carless driving. ( i poped the clutch at the local park the second day i had my rx7 LOL). The insurance is also cheaper if the car is in only your name, as your parents have more to get taken to court for. I save about 30-40 dollars a mounth by having my vehicles put in my name and my name only.

That is a really good price considering, I have 4 speeding tickets and a reckless driving ticket and no wrecks and mine is 300 a month at every company.

Cheating is great until you are caught. What happens if you have a major crash in your RX-7 and injury someone? The insurance company will be looking at any loop hole to avoid paying a claim.

The critical point is to have third party insurance. Even my dog has a $15 million policy! Sounds crazy but she is a 84kg wolfhound, if she frightens anyone and they slip running away. It's essential to have cover in these days of high claims and mega legal fees.

Fortunately I am only paying $900 a year full cover for a $12,000 gen 1 RX-7 after 25 years no claim.
