Unhappy hesitation in a 1980 l/s

I have a 1980 l/s s/a it's just a stock 12/a with leading only, i had a aftermarket fuel pump (mr. gasket or something, it was cheap) but i took it off trying to fix hesitation. The only thing i have other than stock is 8mm wires and a msd blaster coil. and a electric honda fan instead of the stock fan

The hesitation starts at 5500 and goes all the way through 7500 or till i shift
i Have bre8q14 as my spark plugs (4 prong ngk) it acts like it's cold and you first fire it up and try to get on it. I thought the alternator might be out cause when i hit my lights or turn on my signals i can hear the pump surging and the more things i cut on the quiter the pump gets.

The wires are new and the plugs are new and it didn't change it so i figure fuel?

When did you last change the fuel filter?? Needs to be religiously done once a yr or all sorts of running issues can pop up. inspect it when you pull it - if your LS has come out of long storage or very intermittent use, the innards for the gas tank could be shedding - which means constant plugged fuel filters and drivability issues till you pull, clean and reseal the tank - pretty common on cars this old. Don't ask me how I know...
