I am just in the midst of getting mine back on the road after sitting for three years as well and I had the same problem after I got the engine unseized that is. It turned out to be a number of things. Here is a list of things that I had to do.
1) Add gas treatement. The gas was old.
2) Add new fuel as well as treat the gas.
3) Replace the plugs. They were definately a problem.
4) Get the carb up to snuff. Adjust some of the linkages. Replace floats, needles, and seats. Still goofing with the floats a bit but she runs now.
5) After I got her turning I had to blow all the crap out of the engine by removing the plugs and just turning her over for a while. You would be amazed by the crap that gets blown out.
After doing all the above she starts up fine now. The overheating part doesn't sound good but also doesn't mean that there is necessarily anything wrong yet.
Word of warning, if you do get her to fire after all this, keep people away from the tail pipes. She'll spew a whole wack of crap out the pipes!

I found that crude 10w30 works well to, just poor it in, and she will start on just that, my first one did, altho I recomend doing it so that the tail pipe faces nothing important being what all shoots out the back, but after that we were able to get the car to run fine cleaned it all up.
