Help with windshield wiper motor noise
So, yesterday I started my 1980 Rx7 and turned the wipers on to get the pine needles off of the window. Well, the wipers go up, stop, and then this noise is produced from where the wiper motor is (or is what i would assume is the wiper motor). Well, it's this sound like a mrrrrr, like it's trying to move, but it just can't. Any ideas before I start buying things?
Thank you for your input.

remove the wiper rack and motor together. remove the motor from the linkage. the linkage should now be free and should operate by hand easially. if not, the plastic bushings need cleaned and lubricated. rust forms on the pivot ***** on the linkage and muds up the bushing. the whirring noise you are hearing is the wiper motor trying to overcome the corrosion and rusty socket. clean the sockets and regrease each point and work the rack manually. once the track is moving freely, reinstall if and you should have no issues.

As above, +1
I found a major resistance point to be the grease inside the wiper arm pivot points, too; they're kind of a biatch to get apart without the proper snap-ring pliers, but since they are exposed to weather somewhat, the grease inside them turns to putty eventually. Taking them apart, cleaning them, and regreasing them made a huge difference in my wiper speed.
