HELP!!! The trailing coil will not stop arcing. I have replaced it twice.
The other day my battery came loose. When I opened the hood the batter was about a inch away from the distributor. The trailing coil was arcing like mad and the car ran poorly and the tach didn't work very well. I through on this coil I had layin around and it kept arcing. I ordered a new coil for my car (not factory but not a cheapo one either) it kept arcing. I dont know what to do or what it is. All I can do is put a crapload of electrical tape around the coil and hope it holds till I find out what is going on.
I have a 82 gs so its electronic ignition.
please help.

Im assuming you mean its arcing from the pole to the (-) side? Anytime I have seen that, its has been indicative of a cracked pole? Have you swapped the coils around?
Try removing both coils and use the leading one as the trailing and vice versa... Just make sure you mark everyhting unless you got it memorized
If the problem reverses then you got a bad coil. If it stays the same, id say ask God cause I have never seen that?

I found the problem. The half of the ******* distributor rotor disintigrated when the battery hit the distributor. I pulled the cap and a pile of little peices of plastic fell out.
Im pissed as hell now.
