help: removing rotor button

hi! first post here. this place is great!

i have a '85 GS and i am replacing some odds and ends. one of them being the rotor cap and "button" inside. unfortunately, i do not have a haynes manual yet. i removed the rotor cap, but can't figure out how to remove the button.

Just grab it with your hand and pull up. It is not bolted on. It will on go back on one way so lining up the new on is not a problem.

hmmm. ok. i pulled on it, but it didn't budge. i was scared to give it a yank and see other parts com off with... i guess i'll try a bit harder. thank you.

I want to say it has a small screw holing it. Though I might be remembering my toyota 22R. I'd look for a small screw and if you're sure it doesn't have one just give it a tug. Rotor buttons that have been in place for years can be a nightmare to get off.

No screws, but I've had to split them to get them off. Been on the dizzy so long they had siezed/corroded themselves to the shaft.

yea just put some tug behind it and it'll come off.. just make sure your distributor is held in tight by the 10mm bolt that adjusts timing.. or you'll yank the whole dizzy out..
