HELP Plugs fouling too fast
I have a 79 rex7. About a year ago I upgraded the points ignition to the 81-85 electronic setup using bobrx7 instructions. It seemed to be sucssessfull- started ran and drove better than the old points set-up. One thing though-the tach now bounces around and the timing is difficult to set. I think the goal of this change was to have full time operation of the trailing ignition which was only part time in the 79 models. This being the case and that they are both firing full time If I set timing to leading I cant set to trailing and vise verasa. Also in bobrx7's upgrade instructions he recommends installing MSD Blaster II coils. I for some reason that I cant remember purchased both the MSD coils and 81-85 coils. I started with the 81 coils which ran normally. When I installed the MSD's the rex ran terrible so I switched back but I wonder why-I would like to use the MSDs. This all leads to my current problem. I dont use the car on a regular basis-once a month sometimes every 3-6 months. After not using the car for some time the symptom was hesitation- lack of power/smoothness. It felt like a clogged fuel filter-Changed it-Ran better then problem started again. changed return fuel line check valve- Again ran better then prblem started again. What I then checked was the spark plugs. They looked bad but were newer with less then a few hundred miles on them. I cleaned them and again she ran normally but now is building up carbon 10 min. after I clean them. This is also now what I think was the original problem. What do you think is causing the excessive carbon build-up so fast.

So I switch to the MSD coils and this time there was no change. One thing I failed to share was another part of the main symptom- If I very gradually press on the accellerator the car seems to do ok when I give it gas it chokes out -sputters-lack of power-backfiring. Does power foam pour into the gas tank. By the way I have treated the fuel system with Lucas fuel cleaner. Thanks so much for everyone in this forum. I appreciate any advise you guys give.
