Help please: thingie on TB

pulled carb off my '83 GSL to rebuild, and in trying to pull a hose off the throttle body, i broke the tip off this green and black cylindrical thingie. the main cylinder part is black, and the tapered ends are green and have NOK stamped on each side, no other lettering on it.

I tried blowing thru it, but no flow in either direction (but that could just mean its needed replacement).

thanks for the help, sorry no pics, nless you want me to send you one with my camera phone

That is a vacuum delay valve. You cannot generally blow through it. It is supposed to retain a certain amount of vacuum for a predetermined amount of time to the part that it is controlling. I don't remember if you can effectively blow through it or not.

You can drill out the broken end and reinsert it with epoxy and you should be good to go.

Do a search with the terms stripping a nikki or along those lines. there is a thread that covers this in much detail. I believe it is in the Archives.

Come to think of it I never did post my mini-tutorial on that... I've got it in PDF but I need someone with webspace to host it. Any volunteers?

does it have another name i could look it up under at the parts store? I searched and looked at that stripping the nikki thread (among a few others), and none of them indicated that valve. is it necessary, or can i just plug that fitting?
