Help needed on '79 Steering Column Replacement

Need more info -
Re/ Replacement of Steering Column and Gearbox to eliminate movement of actual steering column (Not freeplay of steering wheel).........

Can the tubes from a replacement steering column be swapped out inserted into my existing column?

I 've read that the 'column' is just an outer cover that protects the actual shaft where the steering wheel connects. And those 'tubes' can be pulled right out of the replacement unit.

However, won't that removal from the replacement unit damage the bushings from the replacement unit between the 'tubes' and the column's outer shell?

Can those bushings really saved & be reinstalled into my original column's "outer cover"?

Need members input on Steering Column Woes

Mazda Trix has a 79-80 Top Column Steering Bushing (part no 49-1010-8871).

Can that bushing be installed simply by removing old worn out bushing & installing the new bushing - all while steering column 'tube' and iits internal shaft remains in the car ?

Thanks for any suggestions and advice you can offer

Mint 79 (with exception of this issue)
